Season

The whole year can be impressive...

Spring

The spring is the unnoticeable crossing from winter to spring. In the time between the end of March to the end of May the weather is shaped by thaw periods, rain and sunshine. When the season changes to summer time it hardly gets dark. The region wakes up from the winter sleep and everywhere people repair what the winter has destroyed. It is the special time for weatherproofed photographers, who want to experience the time in an original way. But it is also a perfect time for people who like to experience how nature gets prepared for the summer. In a few days the dark grey brown mountain landscape changes to a green El Dorado of the North.

Summer

The summer is the most popular travelling time in the North even though some mockers says it’s the “green winter”. But the temperatures can reach over 25 °C and a sunbath on the quay beside Holmvik Brygge is not seldom. Different companies in the region offer trips on the north ocean or hiking trips into the mountains. The Vesterålen is a hiking region for the whole family. If you do not travel with the camper you should book in time. Our company also recommends other overnight enterprises and we can also arrange a booking there for you.

Autumn

The autumn is one of the nicest hiking time of the year. During the Indian summer you can go hiking in the vicinity of Nyksund while eating the tasteful berries or picking up the mushrooms and on the way back you can dive into the colorful sundown. That is our autumn. When you are lucky you can experience one of our few autumn storms where you can feel the power of the nature very intensive.

In the evenings you can watch the first Polar lights. It is an unforgettable experience.

Winter

The winter can be warmer than in Germany because of the golf stream. The temperatures are around -2°C. Sometimes it can be up to 6°C. The darkness or better to say the absence of the sun is very impressive in winter. There are four hours in December and January when it is light. In the rest of the time the starry sky shines much lighter than on nearly all other places in Europe. When the snow reflects the moonlight you can go without a torch into the mountains and you have 20 hours time to hope for the amazing Polar lights.

To promise Polar lights sightings is risky. It is a not manageable natural phenomenon. Nevertheless when you see it then Nyksund is a perfect place to watch them, because there are no street lights and no light smog. In addition Nyksund has a special geographic site to the magnetic field of the earth. Who wants to lose the sense of time and explore his own biorhythm should come around to Nyksund. Authors, musicians and other artists like to visit us to work in that atmosphere. Also migraine patients experience through the lack of stimuli a noticeable improvement of their complaints.
